"It was such a busy week, I forgot to share the latest episode of the Iowa Down Ballot with you all! Dave, Kathie, and I talked about the first week of the legislative session. Spencer and I have much more news to discuss from the legislature on KHOI's Capitol Week. We record the show live on Monday evenings, and I will send you the recap on Tuesday. If you are looking for something new to read for Dr. MLK, Jr. Day, Rabbi Neal Schuster of Temple B'nai Jeshurun in Des Moines directed me to this analysis of the "I Have a Dream" speech. It's laid out Talmud-style, with commentaries on the Biblical references around the edge of the page: https://jwa.org/media/i-have-dream-talmud-page"

We spend the bulk of the show with Governor Reynolds’ penultimate condition of the state address. Protestors in the rotunda made their presence felt during the speech, and property tax reform was a big theme. We discuss the details and possible ramifications of the governor’s plan. Another focus in the speech was tackling the state’s cancer problem, so we get into the proposals and their possible effect. We cap off the show with what stories the gang are working on for the week ahead.

Thanks for listening, watching, or reading we really appreciate all of you for following along. We’ll be back next Saturday, see ya then!
